Trichology

Trichology is the branch of medical and cosmetic study and practice concerned with the hair and scalp (definition from Oxford Dictionaries). A trichologist is a person who specializes in the practice of trichology. 

The Institute of Trichologists was founded in 1902 and is the oldest trichology institute in the world.

Trichologists deal with various conditions, including the following:

• Scalp disorders
• Hair loss in men and women
• Hair shaft abnormalities
• Excessive or unwanted hair

Trichologists take a holistic approach to hair and scalp disorders. This is based on the belief that a person should be treated as a whole. The patient's social and cultural situation as well as the disease are taken into consideration.
